Community Activities

DCG West believes in giving back and creating opportunities for people who live in our community. We support a number of community organizations by providing valuable services to help them increase their visibility and fund-raising effectiveness.

SOLID GROUND

DCG West is a corporate sponsor for Solid Ground (formerly the Fremont Public Association). Solid Ground is dedicated to achieving a just and caring community free from poverty, prejudice and neglect. Their 30 programs give 30,000 families a year in King County the services, resources and support they need to avoid and overcome homelessness, hunger, domestic violence and other traumas associated with poverty. In 2007, we contributed over $100,000 in printing services, allowing Solid Ground to apply more funds towards their programs.

"McCallum Print Group's in-kind support of Solid Ground has done much more than provide the agency with high-quality materials to support our efforts to address the needs of low-income people in King County - it has given us the ability to reprogram funds to expand our work," says Mike Buchman, Communicatons Director, of Solid Ground. Mike goes on to say "printing of Solid Ground's Community Report and Groundview's Newsletter has enabled us to double circulation of those publications, involving thousands of more people in efforts to address poverty. The funds saved are supporting an agency initiative to improve access to our services for people who are not primarily English speakers, and who make up an ever-increasing portion of the 30,000 families we serve each year. Funds will go to hiring translators and interpreters."

A couple examples of where DCG West has had a direct impact:

Lettuce Link

Printing of Lettuce Link's Gardening for Good Nutrition will help upwards of a thousand families who rely on food banks throughout Seattle to grow their own healthy organic produce. Funding that would have been spent on the booklet will help Lettuce Link expand it's Community Fruit Tree Harvest, which uses volunteers to glean fruit from backyard fruit trees. The program expects to double their outreach and volunteer teams in 2007, leading to approximately 6,000 pounds of fruit that will be gleaned and delivered to Seattle food banks.

Fremont Fair

Solid Ground's Fremont Fair raises over $60,000 in funds that will support housing counseling and homelessness case management services. These services help keep hundreds of families who are at risk of homelessness in their homes. McCallum's donation of the printing of the Fremont Fair poster and volunteer recruitment materials allows Solid Ground to allocate more funds to homeless families to help them obtain and stay in stable housing.
